Legendary French striker Thierry Henry became Arsenal's all-time leading goalscorer on this day in 2005.

Henry was initially named on the bench for the Gunners' Champions League group-stage clash with Sparta Prague but replaced the late Jose Antonio Reyes after just 15 minutes of the contest.

The striker proceeded to latch onto Kolo Toure's long ball and fire home a delightful outside-of-the-foot effort to equal Ian Wright's record of 185 goals before his 74th-minute strike saw him break the Gunners' all-time record.

Arsenal ended up reaching the final of the 2005-06 Champions League, but Henry's magic touch eluded him in the defeat to Barcelona, and he ended that campaign with 33 strikes and 10 assists to his name from 44 appearances in all competitions.

Henry would go on to net a total of 228 goals in 376 appearances for the club, including two strikes against Leeds United and Sunderland during his short-lived loan spell back at the club in the 2011-12 season.

The 44-year-old would proceed to enjoy stints with Barcelona and the New York Red Bulls before venturing into management, as he currently works as assistant manager for the Belgium national team. body check tags ::
