Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli has been seen donning a protective boot after coming off injured in the Gunners' 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta's side are all but guaranteed to be missing out on the Premier League title thanks to a display of tactical brilliance from the Seagulls, who struck through Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan in a deserved success.

Martinelli started out on the left-hand side for Arsenal and was involved in the centre of controversy within a few minutes, clattering into Kaoru Mitoma and catching the attacker in the face with his elbow.

Moises Caicedo subsequently retaliated by bringing down the Arsenal man from behind not long after, and the Brazilian continued to feel the effects of that challenge in the opening exchanges.

Martinelli ultimately had to be withdrawn in the 20th minute of the match, heading straight down the tunnel for treatment as ex-Brighton man Leandro Trossard was introduced into the fray.

After receiving treatment, Martinelli came onto the field to console his teammates at full time, and the 21-year-old was limping around the field in a boot, adding injury to insult in a day to forget for Arsenal.

Arteta is expected to provide an update on Martinelli's condition in his post-game press conference, but the South American's protective casing has sparked fears of a potentially season-ending injury as the Gunners prepare to face Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers in their final two games of the season.

Arsenal remain four points behind Manchester City having played a game more, and even if Arteta's side get the better of Forest at the City Ground, the champions will officially retain their title if they beat Chelsea next weekend. body check tags ::
