Defending champion Gerwyn Price breezes into the PDC World Championship quarter-finals with a 4-1 win over Dirk van Duijvenbode.

Gerwyn Price has remained on course to defend his PDC world title with a 4-1 victory over Dirk van Duijvenbode in the fourth round.

While the Welshman lost a close first set, he responded by winning the next 12 legs of a one-sided contest, ending the match with a 96.66 average.

Gary Anderson had to work far harder in the last of the third-round ties, coming from 3-0 behind and surviving one match to record a 4-3 win over Ian White.

The Scot hit just three 180s and averaged marginally above 90, but he was still able to set up a last-16 showdown with Rob Cross.

In the final game of the night, Michael Smith and Jonny Clayton put on an all-time classic, the pair sharing 25 180s before Smith prevailed 6-4 in a deciding set, Clayton losing despite averaging in excess of 102.

Earlier in the day, Dave Chisnall became the latest player to test positive for coronavirus, handing a bye to opponent Luke Humphries.

The two seeds during the afternoon session - Jose De Sousa and Nathan Aspinall - both performed below their best in losing out to Alan Soutar and Callan Rydz respectively.

While Soutar rallied to edge out a below-par De Sousa by a 4-3 scoreline, Rydz stormed to a 4-0 triumph over Aspinall. body check tags ::
