Johanna Konta has begun her grass-court campaign with victory over British compatriot Tara Moore in the first round of the Nottingham Open.

The top seed is looking to move on from the disappointment of losing her opening match at the French Open, and she has made it through to the last 16 in the East Midlands after Moore was forced to withdraw during the second set.

Konta had held a 6-2 3-0 lead when the contest was brought to a halt, with the 26-year-old taking two of her eight break-point chances in the opening set.

She then struck twice more during the second before Moore - a quarter-finalist at this competition 12 months ago - pulled out with what appeared to be a foot injury.

Konta will play Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer - a player she lost to on the grass in Birmingham last year - in the second round.
