Russia's Daniil Medvedev will not play in front of home crowds later this month after announcing his withdrawal from the Kremlin Cup.

The US Open champion recently played at the Indian Wells Masters but bowed out in the last-16 following a 6-4 4-6 3-6 defeat to Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov.

Medvedev's fellow US Open winner Raducanu recently announced that she would play no part in the tournament, and Medvedev has now followed suit, despite being scheduled to play in his homeland.

The world number two said on Instagram: "Hello everyone! I am really sad to announce that this year I won't be participating in Kremlin cup. It's always special to have a chance to play in front of Russian fans.

"I signed in to give myself best chances to play, but with calendar this year being extremely tough I felt that my body is not ready 100% anymore. This decision was very tough for me but it has to be done in order to be able to finish 2021 season strong! Thank you and see all soon."

Medvedev is next scheduled to feature in November's Paris Masters seeking to defend his 2020 title, which he claimed following a three-set win over Alexander Zverev in the final. body check tags ::
