Hannah Miley - a Scottish swimmer who won multiple World, European and Commonwealth medals - has retired from the sport at the age of 32.

An individual medley specialist, Miley took the gold medal in the 400 m medley at the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games, as well as the 2012 Short Course Worlds.

The Swindon-born champion also took one short course and two long course golds at the European Championships but has affirmed that "Smiley Miley" is looking ahead to the next chapter in her life.

Miley wrote on social media: "While this is difficult to write I have made the big decision to retire from swimming. It's a sport that I will always love and whilst I will be hanging up my racing suit, my goggles will remain in my hand.

"Reflecting on my career, I look back with pride and a smile as I feel like I have achieved everything I possibly could over the last 17 years of international racing. Whilst the Olympic medal eluded me, I'm satisfied I couldn't have given it any more.

"I will always be 'Smiley Miley' and can't wait to see what the world has in store for me next."

Miley also represented Great Britain at three Olympic Games - posting her best result at Rio 2016, where she finished fourth in the 400 m medley. body check tags ::
