West Ham United to issue lifetime bans to pitch invaders

West Ham United announce that fans will be issued with lifetime bans if found guilty of pitch invading during last Saturday's defeat to Burnley.

West Ham United have released a statement confirming that lifetime bans will be handed to any supporters found guilty of pitch invasion or throwing missiles.

Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Burnley at the London Stadium descended into chaos as four individual fans made their way onto the field.

One was grappled by club captain Mark Noble, while another removed the corner flag and held it aloft in the middle of the pitch as a protest against the West Ham owners.

Co-chairmen David Gold and David Sullivan were also subjected to verbal abuse from the terraces, which forced them to leave the directors' box.

In a statement issued on the club's official website, West Ham said: "The club is working in close conjunction with the Metropolitan Police to identify those individuals, who entered the pitch during the second half, and with stadium operator LS185, using London Stadium's high-quality CCTV footage, to identify those who threw missiles, both of which are specific offences under the Football (Offences) Act 1991.

"Any individual found guilty will be banned from attending any West Ham United fixture, home and away, for life and the club will request the courts serve a banning order to prevent these individuals attending any football matches in the future.

"West Ham United maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards any behaviour of this nature, with the safety of all supporters always the club's number one priority."

The club currently reside three points above the relegation zone with eight games left to play.
