Ray Wilkins is reportedly fighting for his life after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The former Queens Park Rangers and Manchester United player has been placed in an induced coma at St George's Hospital in London, according to the Daily Mail.

Wilkins, who earned 81 caps for England during his playing career, is said to have fallen and hit his head at his home in Surrey after his heart stopped.

The tabloid quotes his son Ross as saying: "I hope everyone can respect the family's wishes over privacy at this very difficult time for us. It's touch and go whether my father will get through this."

Wilkins moved into management after calling time on his playing days in the 1990s and was most recently part of Chelsea's backroom setup under Luiz Felipe Scolari, Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti.

The 61-year-old was working as a pundit just hours before being taken ill, appearing on Sky Sports News and Alan Brazil's ­talkSPORT breakfast show to discuss the weekend's fixtures.
