Tributes to former England captain Ray Wilkins have come flooding in following the news of his passing.

The ex-Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder was placed in an induced coma after suffering a cardiac arrest last week, but died on Wednesday at the age of 61.

Many of Wilkins's former clubs, and teams he played against, have taken to Twitter to sing his praises and send their thoughts to his family.

Players past and present have also paid tribute, as well as football pundits and figures from outside the sport.

Wilkins played for 12 clubs during his career, winning the FA Cup with United in 1983 and the Scottish title with Rangers in 1989.

Capped 84 times for England, the former midfielder is most commonly associated with Chelsea, having spent six years there as a player as well as having numerous stints as assistant manager and one as caretaker boss.

Wilkins also managed Queens Park Rangers, Fulham and the Jordan national team.
