Los Angeles reach agreement to host 2028 Olympic Games

Los Angeles reaches a deal to host the 2028 Olympic Games, leaving Paris to stage the 2024 event.

Los Angeles has agreed a deal to host the 2028 Olympic Games, paving the way for Paris to stage the 2024 event.

The two cities were the only ones left in the bidding, with both vying for the 2024 spot, but it seems as though a decision has been made.

LA city council spokeswoman Caolinn Mejza has revealed that the deal will be reviewed later this week, reports The Guardian.

The Californian city initially argued for 2024 due to having the infrastructure already in place, therefore decreasing the cost, while Paris stated that its proposed Olympic Village could not be redeveloped for the 2028 Games.

According to BBC Sport, LA is only likely to have agreed to a deal if the financial benefits of hosting the Olympics in 2028 were much higher than those earmarked for the earlier Games.

LA hosted the multi-sport event in 1932 and 1984.
