Report: Newcastle United players go on media strike over bonuses

Newcastle United reportedly risk a fine as their players have allegedly refused to carry out media duties in a row over bonus payments.

Newcastle United players are reportedly refusing to carry out media duties as they struggle to reach an agreement on bonuses with owner Mike Ashley.

Members of the Magpies' playing squad snubbed journalists in the mixed zone following the recent pre-season defeats to Braga and Augsburg.

According to Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie, the players have now failed to carry out further duties, including their pre-match walk-ons for television graphics.

Each player at every club is contractually obliged to pose for the camera, their failure to do so potentially leading to a fine.

The row is supposedly down to a standstill in talks with Ashley over a squad bonus payment for the coming season, having earned a share of £4m for staying in the Premier League last time out.
