Former Cagliari Calcio goalkeeper Davide Capello survives Genoa bridge collapse

Former Cagliari goalkeeper Davide Capello reveals that he survived a 30-metre drop during the Genoa bridge collapse.

Former Cagliari Calcio goalkeeper Davide Capello has revealed that he survived a 30-metre drop during the Genoa bridge collapse.

The 33-year-old was crossing the Ponte Morandi when it suddenly crumbled amid a torrential downpour.

At least 37 have been confirmed dead, but many more are feared to be trapped under the rubble.

"It's a miracle I'm alive," Capello told SkyTG24. "I was going towards Genoa and was on the bridge.

"I heard a noise first, then everything collapsed. My car plunged 30 metres and got stuck between the columns and the rubble. It's incredible, I haven't got a scratch on me.

"I often went across that bridge, it's one of the busiest in the country. I saw the road just fall apart in front of me and it was such a shock. I don't know how my car managed to avoid being crushed."

Capello made three Serie B appearances in his career with Cagliari and has worked as a fireman in Savona since retiring, as well as playing for amateur team Legino 1910.
