Which are the biggest controversies regarding some of the rules in golf?

When most people think of golf, they probably remember some of the biggest tournaments, where they had the chance to see some of the best players in the world. Even though golf is not as controversial as some of their sports, such as football and basketball, there are some situations throughout the years that deserve attention.

So, let's take a look at some of the most significant controversies that you may not know about.

Casey Martin suing the PGA Tour

Casey Martin is a famous golf player who had a pretty impressive career at Stanford, where he even played alongside Tiger Woods. Unfortunately, the player has a specific medical condition in his leg, which is why he had to use a golf cart.

During the early 2000s, the PGA Tour did not allow him to use a golf cart, which is why Martin decided to go to court. Most people thought that the two sides would eventually come to an agreement, but the case of PGA Tour Inc. vs Martin reach the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of the golfer.

Dustin Johnson and the sand bunker

Dustin Johnson is currently one of the most famous American golfers, who is often the go-to option for many bettors. People who use the bet365 bonus code and like this player can receive a decent amount of bonus funds, which can be used on different sports, including golf.

During a tournament that took place at Whistling Straits, Johnson grounded his club in a bunker. According to some sources, the player did not know that he was in the bunker because many people were blocking his view.

Sadly, his shot did not go well, which forced a three-way playoff alongside Bubba Watson and Martin Kaymer.

Juli Inkster's disqualification from the Safeway Classic in 2010

This is probably one of the most interesting situations on this list because it involves a fan who was watching the tournament on TV. Some of you might not know, but the U.S. Golf Association does not allow the use of any sort of practice aid during a round of golf.

Unfortunately, Juli Inkster, who is a part of the World Golf Hall of Fame, used something while taking a break that was explicitly against the rules. A fan who was watching the event on TV informed the organizers about this, which led to her disqualification. If she had won, she would have become the oldest winner in the LPGA Tour's history.

De Vicenzo and the scorecards

The last interesting situation that we wanted to share with you took place more than 50 years ago, but this doesn't mean that we should forget about it. It involves a player called Roberto De Vicenzo, a golfer who recently died at the age of 94.

During the 1968 Masters Tournament, he signed an incorrect scorecard by accident. As a result, he had to miss the playoffs for the 1968 Masters Tournament because, according to the cards, he lost by one stroke.
