Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Hugo Bueno has revealed that his loan spell at Feyenoord has 'changed his mentality'.

Having been signed by Wolves in 2019, the 22-year-old has proven a valuable addition with 49 first-team appearances having been made for the Premier League outfit.

However, it was decided last summer that the Spain Under-21 international could benefit from regular game time elsewhere, leading to a high-profile transfer to Feyenoord.

Bueno has since gone on to make 22 outings for the Dutch giants, contributing four assists in a campaign where Feyenoord have reached the last 16 of the Champions League.

In the previous round, Bueno set up the decisive goal against AC Milan at San Siro, further enhancing his stock among the Feyenoord fanbase.

What has Bueno said on future?

Since that moment against the Serie A giants, Bueno has not played a single minute, including in Robin van Persie's first game in charge against NEC Nijmegen at the weekend.

Nevertheless, speaking in an extensive interview with AS, it appears that Bueno remains optimistic about his career trajectory, whether that be with Wolves, Feyenoord or another team.

On being left out of two matches in succession, Bueno said: "I don't have anything physical, I'm 100%. The coach considers what is best for the team. I can only work to be ready.

"We have several left-backs but one (Hartman) is not registered (for the Champions League). I try to keep working and that's it, to take advantage of the opportunities.

When addressing his future, he added: "This loan has been great for me, especially the experience in the Champions League and competing against the best. Knowing that you can be at their level is incredible.

"You have to live in the present, because if not you'll worry. I want to do my best and also be called up to the Under-21s for the European Championship, which would be a dream to play in.

"If something happens, let it be to improve. But playing in the Champions League has changed my mentality."

Is a return to Wolves on the cards?

When Wolves negotiated terms with Feyenoord last summer, it was determined that any deal would be a straight loan, rather than the Eredivisie side possessing an option to buy.

That was a consequence of Wolves viewing Bueno as a future first-team regular, his opportunities having previously been hindered by the form of Rayan Ait-Nouri.

However, the Algeria international could be sold during the summer transfer window, regardless of whether Wolves retain their place in the Premier League.

As it stands, Bueno is essentially viewed as a like-for-like alternative without Wolves having to enter the market. If Ait-Nouri leaves Molineux, Wolves will only receive 50% of any transfer fee due to an agreement that they have in place with his former club Angers.
