Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking to end a 54-year streak when they face Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

The West Midlands outfit endured a dismal first period of the season, struggling for goals and spending time in the Premier League relegation zone.

However, Julen Lopetegui has started to change the club's fortunes, collecting 13 points from his opening seven top-flight fixtures.

As a result, Wolves now sit five points clear of the bottom three ahead of another showdown with a rival at the wrong end of the table.

With Bournemouth sitting that aforementioned points total behind their hosts, they have an opportunity to pull Wolves back into trouble.

Despite their nine-match winless streak in all competitions, the Cherries have recently received boosts in confidence through claiming draws with Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, as well as almost holding free-scoring Brighton & Hove Albion to a goalless draw on away territory.

Nevertheless, Gary O'Neil's squad are making a trip to Molineux to face opponents who are bidding to win three home top-flight fixtures with a clean sheet in a row for the first time since 1969.

In the middle of January, Wolves battled their way to a 1-0 triumph over West Ham United, before that result was backed up by their best performance of the season as they posted a 3-0 victory against Liverpool.

Recent history is also in Wolves' favour with the club having never suffered defeat to Bournemouth in a Premier League fixture, that run lasting five matches.

Wolves are also bidding to extend their seven-match unbeaten run against newly-promoted sides, Brentford the last team to beat them who fit such criteria in September 2021.

On the back of his influential showing as a substitute during the dramatic 2-1 win at Southampton last weekend, Diego Costa could make his 100th appearance in the Premier League.

The veteran forward is still yet to score for Wolves, failing to net in 648 minutes in the top flight. body check tags ::
