Slaven Bilic: 'Javier Hernandez has to sacrifice himself for the team'

West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic reveals that he has held talks with Javier Hernandez to lay out exactly what his role is in the side.

Slaven Bilic has told West Ham United striker Javier Hernandez to "sacrifice himself" when paired with Andy Carroll up front.

The Hammers boss is still attempting to get the best out of the two men when fielded together, admitting earlier this week that it is "almost impossible" to keep both happy.

Hernandez has had to settle for a place towards the left-hand side in recent games to compensate for the return of Carroll, and Bilic has revealed that he recently held talks with the Mexico international.

"I spoke with him and also when you watch him play he is still close to goal," he told reporters. "Javier is a great player and I explained it to him that sometimes you have to sacrifice yourself for the team."

Hernandez has two goals in five Premier League appearances since joining West Ham from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, while Carroll has yet to get off the mark in his two outings this term.
