Wales boss Chris Coleman: 'I'm delighted for Tom Lawrence'

Wales boss Chris Coleman admits that he is delighted for Tom Lawrence after the winger netted his nation's winning goal against Georgia in their World Cup qualifier.

Wales boss Chris Coleman has praised the performance of Tom Lawrence after the winger scored the winning goal for the Dragons in their 1-0 triumph over Georgia.

With his nation needing a win to maintain their hopes of reaching the playoffs, Lawrence drilled a low shot from distance into the bottom corner to earn Wales three vital points in Tbilisi.

Lawrence was winning just his ninth cap - and appearing in the side as a replacement for the injured Gareth Bale - but Coleman was impressed with how the Derby County midfielder performed when given his opportunity.

The 47-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I am delighted for Tom. People expect big things from him and in the last few games he has done a good job.

"He showed great courage tonight because defensively he had a job to do. He did it exceptionally well and I thought his all round performance was fantastic."

Wales will now look to defeat Republic of Ireland on Monday night in order to accumulate enough points to finish as one of the eight best runners-ups.
