Victor Lindelof 'cried after missing Sweden World Cup opener'

Sweden defender Victor Lindelof reportedly cries after missing his side's opening World Cup game against South Korea.

Sweden defender Victor Lindelof reportedly cried after missing his side's opening World Cup game against South Korea.

The Manchester United centre-back was expected to make his tournament debut in Monday afternoon's fixture, but reportedly felt ill a day before the game and was replaced in the team by Pontus Jansson just hours before kick off.

Jansson told Swedish outlet Sportbladet that Lindelof was "very sad" at being unable to make the game.

"When I woke up, I was told Vigge would play, but I got a text before we went to the stadium: 'Get ready. Feeling bad again'," the Leeds United defender said.

"Then I became very happy and a little nervous at first. But also very sad. Then I went to him in his room. Lindelof was very sad. He cried. I got a tear in my eye."

Jansson's defensive partner Andreas Granqvist won the game for Sweden with a decisive penalty in the second half.
