Sports Mole previews Sunday's Premier League clash between Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bounce back from Thursday's shock 2-1 defeat to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League when they head to Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday.

Spurs are currently seventh in the table, four points behind fourth-placed West Ham United, while Burnley occupy 18th position, having picked up just nine points from their 12 league games in 2021-22.

Match preview

Burnley have won one, drawn six and lost five of their 12 Premier League matches this season to collect nine points, which has left them down in 18th position, now just a point clear of 19th-placed Norwich City.

Only basement side Newcastle United (zero) have won fewer Premier League matches than Burnley this term, and the early indications are that it could be a tough campaign for the Clarets.

Sean Dyche's side are actually unbeaten in their last four league games, though, picking up draws against Southampton, Chelsea and Crystal Palace, in addition to beating Brentford 3-1, since suffering a 2-0 defeat away to the champions Manchester City in the middle of October.

Burnley entered the November international break off the back of an excellent point at table-topping Chelsea before playing out a six-goal thriller with Palace last weekend, with the Clarets twice coming from behind to claim a stare of the spoils in front of their own supporters.

The home side will now be looking to stretch their unbeaten run in the league to five matches, but they have lost four of their last five games against Spurs, including a 1-0 defeat in the League Cup at Turf Moor last month.

Tottenham also recorded a 1-0 victory when they travelled to Burnley in the Premier League last season, but they suffered a 2-1 loss to the Clarets at Turf Moor during the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.

Antonio Conte managed to lead Spurs to a 2-1 win over Leeds United in the league last weekend, with the North London club coming from behind to triumph, and the result moved them into seventh spot in the table, now just four points behind fourth-placed West Ham on the same number of games.

The new head coach would have been looking to build on the success against Leeds in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, but the English club suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Mura, which has left them sweating on a position in the knockout round of the European competition.

Tottenham have had a lot of issues this season, but a win at Turf Moor would lead them nicely into back-to-back home league fixtures against Brentford and Norwich City, and it is not impossible to imagine the club being challengers for the top four this season under the management of serial winner Conte.

Team News

Burnley boss Dyche revealed during Friday's press conference that Ashley Barnes will again miss out through injury, but Jay Rodriguez and Matej Vydra could both be involved in the squad.

The Clarets will be missing both James Tarkowski and Ashley Westwood through suspension, though, which is expected to open the door for Nathan Collins and Jack Cork to come into the starting XI.

Maxwel Cornet has scored five Premier League goals since his arrival from Lyon, and the 25-year-old will again feature in the final third of the field alongside Chris Wood.

As for Tottenham, Cristian Romero and Dane Scarlett will definitely miss the contest through injury, while Giovani Lo Celso remains a doubt with the issue that he picked up on international duty.

Oliver Skipp is available after sitting out the win over Leeds through suspension, and the midfielder should return to the starting XI, with Harry Winks dropping out.

Japhet Tanganga should get the nod over Davinson Sanchez as part of a back three, while Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura will return to the side to join Harry Kane in the final third of the field.

Burnley possible starting lineup:
Pope; Lowton, Collins, Mee, Taylor; Gudmundsson, Brownhill, Cork, McNeil; Cornet, Wood

Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:
Lloris; Tanganga, Dier, Davies; Emerson, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Reguilon; Son, Kane, Lucas

We say: Burnley 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Confidence will not exactly be flowing in the Tottenham camp, but they did pick up an important Premier League win over Leeds last weekend, and we believe that the London club's quality in the forward areas will allow them to secure all three points in a very tight contest on Sunday afternoon.
