Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane has challenged himself to hit the 50-goal milestone next season and join an elite band of players.

The 23-year-old is coming off the back of a campaign that saw him net 38 times overall for club and country, 29 of which came in the Premier League to make him the division's top scorer.

With a World Cup to potentially look forward to in 12 months' time, Kane is hoping to stay injury free and enjoy his best season yet in front of goal as attempts to emulate the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

"[50 goals] is a target I would love to get to," he told reporters. "Hopefully I can stay fit for the whole season next season. "That's always the aim and 50 goals is something I would love to achieve.

"It was a very good year this year. There is plenty still to work on and improve, but I'm looking forward to having a break and then going again. It's a big year and there's a lot to look forward to.

"Going into next year with Spurs is very exciting after coming second last year - we have the Champions League and want to improve on last season. Going into the World Cup, there is no better trophy to win. So there's still a lot to improve and a lot to work on, but I'm looking forward to it."

Kane, who missed three months of the 2016-17 season through injury, scored twice in his last outing as England fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of France.
