Luis de la Fuente will name his first Spain XI on Saturday evening, with the national team's new head coach preparing to open his reign against Norway in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

The 61-year-old has made wholesale changes to the squad following the 2022 World Cup, while there is a new captain in the shape of Alvaro Morata, with Sergio Busquets retiring after the competition in Qatar.

Unai Simon, Jordi Alba, Pau Torres, Pedri, Ferran Torres, Marco Asensio and Ansu Fati are notable absentees for a variety of reasons, with De la Fuente putting his mark on the squad.

David Garcia and Joselu will be hoping to earn their first caps for the national side, while Borja Iglesias, Martin Zubimendi and Pedro Porro will be bidding to add to their singular caps.

Dani Carvajal is the national team's new vice-captain and is expected to start at right-back, while there could be a spot in the middle of the defence for Inigo Martinez, who has recovered from the troublesome foot injury that has seen him miss a lot of football for Athletic Bilbao this term.

Dani Ceballos is back in the squad and could start in central midfield, while Morata might be joined in the final third by Mikel Oyarzabal and Dani Olmo.

Iago Aspas is also back in the squad, with the 35-year-old rewarded for his impressive form for Celta Vigo, while exciting youngsters Nico Williams and Yeremy Pino will also hope to be involved.
