Martin O'Neill signs new Republic of Ireland deal

Martin O'Neill extends his stay as Republic of Ireland boss until 2020.

Martin O'Neill has extended his stay as Republic of Ireland boss until 2020.

The Green Army currently face an uphill task to qualify for next summer's World Cup after a defeat to Serbia last month, but that has not stopped O'Neill from being allowed to commit his immediate future to the team.

The news comes just 24 hours ahead of Republic of Ireland's must-win fixture with Moldova, before they make the short trip to Cardiff to face Wales.

In 42 matches in charge, O'Neill has won 16 times and lost on just 11 occasions, while the former Celtic and Aston Villa boss guided the nation to Euro 2016, where they lost out to France in the last 16.

O'Neill's assistant Roy Keane has also agreed a two-year extension to his deal.
