Real Madrid have reportedly met with Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz to discuss a potential move to the Spanish capital in next summer's transfer window.

The Spain international, who joined Napoli from Real Betis in the summer of 2018, has been linked with the likes of Madrid and Barcelona after impressing during his time in Serie A.

Los Blancos are said to view the midfielder as a replacement for Luka Modric, who is reportedly free to leave the club during the January transfer window.

According to ESPN, Madrid met with Ruiz in October to discuss a switch to the Bernabeu, and the capital giants are confident that they will beat Barca to his signature despite firm interest from Camp Nou.

The report, though, adds that Zinedine Zidane's side would have to come up with an offer of between £69m and £86m to land the Spaniard as there is no release clause in his contract.

Ruiz has scored once and provided two assists in 14 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti's side this season.
