Kylian Mbappe will reportedly announce on Sunday whether he is remaining at Paris Saint-Germain or joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The France international's current deal in Paris is due to expire at the end of June, and the French champions are desperately working to convince the attacker to pen a fresh contract.

Real Madrid, though, have long been seen as the favourites to sign the World Cup winner on a free transfer at the end of June, with the club confident that a deal can soon be announced.

According to L'Equipe, Mbappe will make a statement on his future on Sunday, with the forward expected to confirm his decision on the show Telefoot.

The 23-year-old has again been in excellent form for PSG during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring 36 goals and registering 26 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions.

In Ligue 1, he has contributed 25 goals and registered 19 assists in 34 appearances, while he netted six times and provided six assists in eight Champions League appearances.

In total, the Frenchman has netted 168 goals and registered 87 assists in 216 outings for PSG since making the move from Monaco, and he could make his final appearance for the club against Metz in the league on Saturday.

The French champions allegedly remain 'convinced' that Mbappe will be signing a new deal, but Real Madrid are believed to be equally confident of bringing him to Bernabeu.

When questioned on whether he is asked about Mbappe by the club's fans, Los Blancos head coach Carlo Ancelotti told reporters: "I don't spend much time on the street. I spend my time in Valdebebas, in my car, in my house and maybe in some of Madrid's good restaurants.

"If anyone has spoken to me, they've asked me about the Champions League final. I think Real Madrid fans are more excited about the Champions League final right now, so we're all just thinking about trying to win the 14th European Cup. Nothing more."

Barcelona had also been linked with Mbappe earlier this year, but the Catalan club's president Joan Laporta recently explained why his club were not in the race for his services.

"There are players that we have not had the money to do (sign) nor will we because the salary structure does not allow us, and the spending has shot us again, Laporta told Radio Catalunya. "It cannot happen again.

"You have to be conscious and it's something that we are instilling in all areas of the club. You can't go past a certain spending level. Mbappe is asking for €40-50m net. He wants 50 net.

"Mbappe is at a level of 'super tops'. Though, neither one of the other win the Champions League. You also have to have that in mind. To speak of salaries of 25, 30 or 40m net, we will not do it.

"It would be a comparative offence for players who are called to be a reference in the world of football who are at Barca and are just starting out. We're not going to do it, nor do we want to."

Although Real Madrid could potentially acquire Mbappe on a free transfer, the La Liga champions would have to pay the attacker a substantial signing-on fee and a huge wage packet to bring him to Bernabeu. body check tags ::
