Real Madrid have confirmed that Florentino Perez will remain as the Spanish club's president for a fifth term.

Perez won uncontested after no candidates ran against him, and the 70-year-old will now stay in his position until 2021.

The Spaniard initially moved to the Bernabeu in 2000 - overseeing two La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues - before resigning in 2006 after three seasons without major silverware.

Perez returned in 2009, however, and opened the chequebook for the likes of Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Last season, Real Madrid became the first team to successfully defend the Champions League, while they also wrestled the La Liga title away from Barcelona, lifting their first league trophy since 2012.

Perez is said to be desperate to bring AS Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe to the Bernabeu this summer, but is seemingly facing a fight to keep Ronaldo as the Portuguese continues to be linked with a move away from Madrid.
