Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he will retire from football management once his second spell in charge of Los Blancos comes to an end.
The 63-year-old returned to Bernabeu last June after a stint at Everton, and he enjoyed a successful 2021-22 campaign at the helm, helping the club win La Liga, the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup.
Real Madrid's European Cup triumph last season saw Ancelotti become the most successful coach in the history of the competition, having now lifted the trophy on four occasions, two of which have come at Bernabeu.
The Italian has said that he will retire from football when he departs Los Blancos, with his current deal in the Spanish capital due to run until June 2024.
"This stage at Real will end my career. After Los Blancos, I'll stop," Ancelotti told Il Messagero. "Real is the top of football. It makes sense to put an end to it after this experience."
Earlier this year, Ancelotti said that he would be prepared to stay as Real Madrid boss "for another 10 years" and also hinted at the possibility of managing a national side in the future.
"After this period at Real Madrid it is likely that I will retire. But if Real Madrid want me to be here for another 10 years, I'll be here for another 10 years," Ancelotti told Amazon Prime Video.
"I would like to be with my grandchildren, to be on holiday with my wife. There are so many things to do that I've had to put aside. There's a lot of places I've never been to.
"I've never been to Australia. I've never been to Rio de Janeiro. I want to go visit my sister more often. Unfortunately you can't do everything, so the day I retire, I'll have all these things to do."
Ancelotti's only previous international experience came as assistant manager at Italy between 1992 and 1995, but he previously claimed that he would be open to the move after ending his club coaching career.
"Why not? I would love to (manage a national side), of course. Canada have done very well recently," said the Italian when asked about managing Les Rouges.
In his first spell as Real Madrid boss between 2013 and 2015, Ancelotti won the Copa del Rey, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup, leaving with a record of 89 wins, 14 draws and 16 defeats from 119 matches.
The Italian started his club management career at Reggiana in 1995, and he has also been in charge of Parma, Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Napoli and Everton.
Last season, he became the first manager to win league titles in Europe's top five leagues, having lifted Serie A with AC Milan, the Premier League with Chelsea, Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain and the Bundesliga at Bayern.
Real Madrid have already secured silverware this season, beating Europa League holders Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night courtesy of goals from David Alaba and Karim Benzema, and they are now preparing to play their first La Liga game of the campaign at Almeria on Sunday. body check tags ::
