Gareth Bale: 'Real Madrid motivated for clean sweep of trophies'

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale is excited ahead of the new season, which he hopes will end with his side winning a clean sweep of trophies.

Gareth Bale has challenged his Real Madrid teammates to improve on last season's impressive double by winning a clean sweep of trophies in 2017-18.

Los Blancos followed up their first La Liga title success in five years by lifting the Champions League for the third time in four years, completing a rare league and European double - their first since 1958.

Bale, restricted to just 27 appearances last time out in a frustrating injury-plagued campaign, is hoping to make more of an impact in the coming months in what he hopes will be another memorable season.

"We go into every competition looking to win it and it's no different again this year," Sky Sports News quotes him as saying. "We have got the motivation to do that and will be trying our hardest to win every competition we enter."

Madrid went down 2-1 on penalties to Manchester United in their first pre-season outing on Sunday night, but Bale is happy to have got some minutes under his belt after two months off.

"Obviously, the first game in pre-season for us," he added. "It is just about getting the cobwebs out, getting some game time into us. We would have loved to win but that's the way it goes."

Bale has been tipped to join United in the past, but Jose Mourinho yesterday ruled out making a move as he fears that he will be 'wasting his time'.
