Real Madrid have been dealt an injury blow with the news that striker Alvaro Morata is to miss around a month of action with a muscle strain.

The 24-year-old picked up the knock during Spain's 2-2 draw with England at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night, meaning that he will play no part in next weekend's La Liga showdown with Atletico Madrid.

Morata, who has scored eight times in 17 appearances for Los Blancos this season in all competitions, will also likely sit out El Clasico on December 3, as well as games against Sporting Lisbon, Sporting Gijon, Borussia Dortmund, Deportivo La Coruna and minnows Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey.

A Madrid medical update read: "After tests carried out on our player Alvaro Morata at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital prior to the training session held today, Wednesday, he has been diagnosed with a grade 2 muscle injury in his right hamstring."

Madrid also revealed that captain Sergio Ramos and midfielder Luka Modric are on course to make a return to action at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday, though Gareth Bale, Casemiro, Mateo Kovacic and Karim Benzema are all fitness doubts.
