Bruno Alves: 'We are focusing on ourselves'

Portugal defender Bruno Alves says that his team are "not interested" in Germany's demise as they concentrate on themselves at the 2018 World Cup.

Portugal defender Bruno Alves has insisted that his team are "not interested" in Germany's demise as they concentrate on themselves at the 2018 World Cup.

The reigning world champions were incredibly dumped out in the group stages of the competition courtesy of their 2-0 defeat to Japan on Wednesday afternoon.

European champions Portugal, however, finished second in their section to set up a clash with Uruguay in the last 16.

Alves claims that "there are no easy games" in the World Cup, but the 36-year-old says that Portugal are solely concentrating on what they can achieve at this summer's competition.

"We have seen that in this World Cup there are no easy games. Germany going out is another clear indication of that," Alves told reporters. "But this doesn't change the fact that we're 100% focused on Portugal.

"We prepare every day for our games always believing that we can reach the next stage. Whatever happens to other teams is interesting for other people - people who analyse the results - but we're not interested. We only care about Portugal."

Portugal won one and drew two of their three group matches this summer.
