Rafael Benitez provides updates on Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden

Rafael Benitez expects both Matt Ritchie and Isaac Hayden to be Newcastle United players come the start of the new season.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that he does not expect to lose Matt Ritchie or Isaac Hayden before the end of the transfer window.

Ritchie was rumoured to be a £15m target for Championship side Stoke City, while Hayden is said to have asked to leave due to personal reasons.

Speaking during Newcastle's pre-season training camp in Ireland, however, Benitez suggested that neither player will move on in the next few weeks.

"We are in the same position as we were last year," he told Sky Sports News when asked about Ritchie's situation. "We are happy with him and we don't want to sell him.

"To do a movement, there would be too many things that would have to happen. I was talking with him this morning, and I don't see any change in the situation.

"Hayden? I don't think that we will lose him. We will try our best to help him with his situation. We need players like him. He's an English player and we have a lot of trust in him. He can have a great future, and we will try to help him."

Benitez also admitted that he does not expect to add to his three summer signings until players are offloaded.
