Ayoze Perez: 'Home form vital for Newcastle United survival hopes'

Ayoze Perez acknowledges that Newcastle United's home form over the remaining three months of the season could make the difference between staying up and going back down.

Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez has admitted that his side have to use Sunday's victory against Manchester United as a springboard to turn St James' Park into a fortress.

The Magpies defeated Man United 1-0 for just their fourth home win of the season and a first since October, giving their Premier League survival hopes a major shot in the arm.

Perez concedes that Newcastle have thrown away far too many points in front of their supporters during what has been a difficult return to the top flight thus far but, after putting an end to the eight-game winless streak on Tyneside, the Spaniard is now targeting some consistency.

"It's going to be really important, as we haven't been as good as we wished at home," he told reporters when asked about his side's home form over their remaining matches.

"This is the first win since October against Palace, so that means a lot. We have to be stronger at home. That's it. The home games can make a difference. You see how the other teams are winning at home. We know it and we're working on it.

"Every game now is massive and every point that we win will make the difference. It was a massive win for us, a great performance from the boys. I'm really, really happy and pleased to have won this game.

"It's a clear example of a Premier League game. To win it means a lot for us. Now we keep working and rest a little bit as well. We keep going. Still, nothing is done, but it's three more points which, at this moment, make a great difference."

Newcastle have five more home games to come this season, beginning with the visit of Southampton on March 10.
