Claude Puel: 'Leicester City deserved win over Newcastle United'

Leicester City manager Claude Puel believes that his side "deserved" their 3-2 win over Newcastle, despite needing a late own goal to pick up all three points.

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has insisted that his side "deserved" their dramatic 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at St James' Park this evening.

The Foxes fell behind early before turning the game around courtesy of goals from Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray either side of half time.

Dwight Gayle looked to have done enough to earn a share of the spoils for the Magpies when he levelled things up with less than 20 minutes remaining, but an 86th-minute own goal from Ayoze Perez ensured that Leicester made it three wins on the bounce.

"[We had a] fantastic, positive attitude. It is difficult. After a good first half our start to the second half was not enough. We came back with the second goal. It was a fantastic move and a fantastic goal," Puel told BBC Sport.

"We deserved this result and now it is important to continue from this result. We played against a good team. They played with in a fantastic atmosphere and it was difficult. We showed fantastic spirit. It is a fantastic feeling at the end with the third goal and we deserved it."

Puel has now won three consecutive Premier League games for the first time in his managerial career.
