Rafael Benitez: 'Newcastle United moving in different directions at same time'

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez claims the newly-promoted Premier League club is moving "in different directions at the same time" in a bid to recruit new players.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has admitted that the club are moving "in different directions at the same time" in a bid to recruit new players.

The Magpies, back in the Premier League after a season in the Championship, have made five signings this summer, with some fans frustrated over what they perceive as slow progress in the transfer market.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley had promised to give Benitez "every penny the club generates" from promotion and player sales to rebuild the squad.

However, Benitez confessed to being frustrated over the lack of incomings and outgoings at the club last month, and following injury to striker Dwight Gayle, is desperate to improve his team.

"We know what we need and we will try to do this until the end of the transfer window," Benitez told Sky Sports News following Newcastle's 2-0 win over Hellas Verona on Sunday. "We are now trying to move in different directions at the same time.

"We are trying to move players out to bring players in - that is what we are trying to do. We know where we are and what we need and if we can get that, I'm not sure."

Wingers Jacob Murphy and Christian Atsu, defenders Florian Lejeune and Javier Manquillo, and midfielder Mikel Merino have joined Newcastle thus far this summer.
