Dwight Yorke urges Manchester United to sign Gareth Bale

Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke urges the Red Devils to ignore the 2018 World Cup and concentrate on signing Real Madrid's Gareth Bale.

Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke has urged the Red Devils to ignore the 2018 World Cup and concentrate on bringing Real Madrid's Gareth Bale to Old Trafford.

Bale issued a come-and-get-me-plea to interested clubs after scoring twice in Madrid's 3-1 win over Liverpool in the Champions League final last month.

United are reportedly prepared to spend up to £122m to land the 28-year-old this summer, although it is understood that Los Blancos want closer to £200m.

United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is desperate to land the attacker, although it has been reported that Mourinho does not want the bulk of the club's summer transfer budget to be spent on one player.

Yorke, however, has claimed that 'no player suits the 20-time English champions more than Bale'.

"United and Jose don't need to look at the World Cup. No player suits us more than Gareth Bale," he told 888sport.

"Yes there will always be some exciting candidates to look at but Bale is someone who excites me. He is the right age, in his prime, and will be the perfect addition."

Bale, who has four years left to run on his contract at the Bernabeu, ended the 2017-18 campaign with 21 goals in 39 appearances for his club despite struggling for starts throughout the season.
