Tottenham Hotspur 'considering January move for Federico Chiesa'

Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Juventus forward Federico Chiesa in January, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a mid-season move for Federico Chiesa amid the uncertainty surrounding his future with Juventus.

The 26-year-old has been in strong form for the Old Lady during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring four goals and registering one assist in eight appearances in all competitions.

Chiesa has less than two years left to run on his contract in Turin, though, and there has recently been speculation surrounding his future.

Manchester United have recently been credited with an interest in the Italy international, as the Red Devils are preparing to lose Jadon Sancho at the start of 2024.

However, according to Calciomercato, there is also interest from North London in the shape of Tottenham, with a bid of around €60m (£52m) likely to be considered by Juventus in January.

The report claims that Newcastle United are also keeping a close eye on the developments amid claims that the Old Lady are not totally against a mid-season departure.

Juventus are said to be keen to renew his contract, potentially for a further 12 months, but the club are not believed to be in a position to increase his salary, which is around €5m (£4.3m) per year.

Chiesa is likely to be offered more than that to move to the Premier League, although Tottenham's absence from European football this season could potentially cost them the chance to sign him.

The Italian made the move to the Old Lady from Fiorentina in 2020, initially on loan, and he has represented them on 102 occasions, scoring 26 goals and registering 21 assists in the process.

Chiesa is capable of operating in a number of different positions in the final third of the field, although he has largely played as a second striker for Juventus this season.

Tottenham did not replace Harry Kane during the recent transfer window, but the capital outfit have made a brilliant start to the season, sitting top of the Premier League table on 23 points from nine matches.

Ange Postecoglou's side have won their last three against Liverpool, Luton Town and Fulham, and they will be bidding to move five points clear of reigning champions Manchester City in Friday night's clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Son Heung-min has been in excellent scoring form this season, finding the back of the net on seven occasions, while James Maddison leads the assists chart with five. body check tags ::
