Everton reportedly failed with an approach for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo due to an intervention from the Glazer family.

Having made just six outings for United last season, Rojo does not feature in the long-term plans of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is seemingly happy to part ways with the left-sided player.

The Toffees had been keen to add the Argentina international to their squad during the closing days of the summer window, only for a deal to not be completed on August 8.

According to The Times, the transfer failed to materialise as a result of the Glazers viewing Everton as potential rivals to United during the current campaign.

United are now attempting to sell Rojo to a foreign club, although no team has shown a willingness to meet the Premier League side's £20m valuation.

The 29-year-old effectively has three years left on his contract.
