Patrick Dorgu has issued a transfer message ahead of flying to England to complete his transfer to Manchester United from Serie A side Lecce in the coming days.

The Red Devils had made signing a new left-back their priority in the winter window, with Luke Shaw sidelined and Tyrell Malacia still working his way back to full fitness following a serious knee injury.

New boss Ruben Amorim has been forced to use Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui to cover at left-back, while Lisandro Martinez has also filled in on occasion over the first half of the campaign.

United have been in negotiations with Lecce for nearly two weeks, and the deal now seems set to be wrapped up before the window shuts on February 3.

Dorgu breaks silence on Man United transfer

Dorgu was an unused substitute in Lecce's 3-1 victory over Parma in Serie A on Friday night - the first league match of the season in which he did not start, despite being available for selection.

When asked by Sky Italy if he was "excited" about the move to Old Trafford, the 20-year-old Danish international responded, "Yes, it is an opportunity for me!"

After the win against Parma, Lecce manager Marco Giampaolo confirmed that Dorgu would be flying to Manchester on Saturday, and also admitted that he left the defender out of the squad, as the player's focus might have already shifted to his upcoming move to Old Trafford.

Giampaolo said: "It's true, Patrick Dorgu will be flying to Manchester on Saturday. He's a fantastic player and guy.

"He always did his best for us. I didn't play him tonight as his mind could be already there, Old Trafford."

Dorgu set to become first signing of Amorim era

Dorgu is set to undergo a medical over this weekend before finalising his transfer, which will see him become the first signing of the Amorim era at Manchester United.

Reports in recent days suggest that the Red Devils agreed to a deal with Lecce valued at just under £30m to secure the services of the highly-rated defender.

It is understood that United had initially looked into signing Nuno Mendes from Paris Saint-Germain, but the deal proved too costly, as Amorim had to work within budget limitations.

Additionally, Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth was believed to be a consideration, but the Cherries were unwilling to let him go for less than their asking price.

Dorgu has featured 23 times across all competitions for Lecce this season, netting three goals and providing an assist in that time. body check tags ::
