Newcastle United have still retained an interest in signing Lille defender Sven Botman in the future, despite several failed bids in January, according to a report.

Eddie Howe was keen to bring the Dutchman to St James' Park in the last transfer window in order to strengthen his side's back line, but after reportedly failing with offers of around £32m, the Magpies signed Dan Burn from Brighton & Hove Albion instead.

However, despite signing the towering defender, Newcastle remain hopeful of securing the signature of Botman according to the Daily Mail.

The report outlines how the 22-year-old is said to be in advanced talks over a move to Serie A champions AC Milan this summer, but that Newcastle hope the lure of the Premier League will be enough to persuade Botman to make the move to Tyneside.

Tottenham Hotspur's and Manchester United's interest in the defender are also highlighted in the report, although their priorities look to be elsewhere as things stand.

Since making the £7m move to Lille from Ajax in 2020, Botman has gone on to make 79 appearances for the club across all competitions, helping them to the Ligue 1 title in the 2020-21 campaign. body check tags ::
