Newcastle United are reportedly preparing to reignite their interest in Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay during this summer's transfer window.

The Scotland international was heavily linked with the Magpies in January, but Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag was not prepared to let an important squad member leave in the middle of the campaign.

McTominay has again been a regular for Man United this season, making 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering one assist in the process.

However, the 26-year-old only started 10 Premier League matches during the 2022-23 campaign, with Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes all ahead of him in terms of the starting roles.

McTominay has had his injury problems this season, which have further restricted his game time, but there is currently speculation surrounding his future ahead of the summer transfer window.

Newcastle were linked with the Scot during the January transfer window, and according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies remain interested in his signature.

Romano claims that Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe 'appreciates' the midfielder, although it is still unclear whether Man United will sanction a sale in the upcoming market.

The Red Devils view signing a new number nine as their main priority this summer, but the club are also believed to be in the market for a central midfielder.

West Ham United's Declan Rice continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, although it is unlikely that Ten Hag's side would be able to sign both the Hammers captain and a big-money centre-forward in the same transfer window.

McTominay came through the youth system at Man United, and he has represented the Red Devils on 208 occasions in all competitions, contributing 19 goals and five assists in the process.

The midfielder recovered from an unknown injury to feature in his side's final three league games of the campaign, although all three outings came off the bench.

McTominay is also unlikely to be included in the team's starting XI for Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester City, with Casemiro, Eriksen and Fernandes the first-choice midfield.

Newcastle will play Champions League football next season following their fourth-place finish in the 2022-23 Premier League, and the Magpies are expected to be active this summer, as Howe looks to build on what has been an excellent season for the club.
