Newcastle United have reportedly joined the race to sign Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams on loan next month.

The 20-year-old is expected to head for the Old Trafford exit door after falling out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 2020-21 campaign.

Alex Telles and Luke Shaw are both ahead of Williams in the Red Devils' pecking order, with the Englishman's only starts for United this season coming in the EFL Cup.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has identified Williams as a potential signing in January, with the Magpies prioritising loan deals next month.

Jamal Lewis has quickly become Newcastle's first-choice left-back since his summer arrival from Norwich City, but Bruce supposedly wants to keep the Northern Irishman on his toes with the acquisition of Williams.

Southampton and Bayer Leverkusen have also been linked with a swoop for Williams, although the latter reportedly want the left-back permanently while United are only prepared to let him leave on loan.
