Manchester United 'tracking Frenkie de Jong'

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The 21-year-old, who can also drop into defence, kept a clean sheet at centre-back in his team's 3-0 Champions League win over AEK Athens on Wednesday evening.

According to The Sun, United sent scouts to watch the Dutchman in the Netherlands' 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to France earlier this month ahead of a potential January swoop.

The newspaper says that Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona are also keen on bringing De Jong, who has appeared eight times this term, to England.

De Jong, whose Ajax contract expires in 2022, netted eight goals in the Eredivisie last season.
