Manchester United have reportedly 'taken the first steps' towards signing Inter Milan centre-forward Lautaro Martinez during this summer's transfer window.

The Red Devils are expected to move for a new striker ahead of the 2021-22 campaign, with Edinson Cavani set to leave on a free transfer and Cristiano Ronaldo's future unclear.

Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane has been linked with the 20-time English champions in recent days, but the England captain could be priced out of a switch to Old Trafford.

According to Il Giorno, Man United are currently focusing on Martinez, with the club keen to bring the Argentina international to the Premier League this summer.

The report claims that the Red Devils have 'taken the first steps' towards moving for the 24-year-old, but Liverpool and Arsenal are also said to be keen on his services.

Martinez has scored 12 goals and registered two assists in 33 appearances for Inter this season, but he has not scored for the Serie A champions in the league since December 17.

I Nerazzurri are believed to value the South American, who has a contract at San Siro until June 2026, in the region of €90m (£75m). body check tags ::
