AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Manchester United.

The Premier League giants are known to be in the market for a new centre-back, and a number of players have been linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford.

According to Calciomercato, United have started to monitor the development of Romagnoli who has enjoyed a fine campaign at San Siro.

The 24-year-old has made a total of 23 starts in Serie A and the Europa League, and the Italy international has played his part in closing the gap to third-placed Inter Milan in the league table.

Romagnoli still has just under three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, but Milan's ongoing position with FFP may led to any big offers being entertained during the next transfer window.
