Liverpool, Manchester United 'receive boost in Dayot Upamecano pursuit'

Bayern Munich cannot afford to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano, according to a report.

Liverpool and Manchester United have reportedly received a boost in their pursuit of Dayot Upamecano, with Bayern Munich currently unable to sign the central defender.

The 22-year-old is believed to be a transfer target for a number of clubs and could be on the move next summer when a £40m release clause in his RB Leipzig contract comes into play.

Bayern had been strongly linked with the France international and were expected to rival the likes of Liverpool and United for his signature at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

However, according to Bild, Upamecano, who has scored once in 10 appearances for Leipzig during the 2020-21 campaign, is out of Bayern's price range.

Liverpool have allegedly identified the Frenchman as their leading transfer target, but United also continue to be linked with his services as they search for a new centre-back.

Bayern's need for reinforcements at the back is also strong, though, with David Alaba and Jerome Boateng, as it stands, both out of contract next June. body check tags ::
