Former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly begun negotiations with representatives from the MLS ahead of a potential move to America.

The 35-year-old scored 28 goals in 46 appearances during his solitary season at Old Trafford, but was not offered a contract extension by the Red Devils after picking up a serious knee injury which could keep him sidelined until 2018.

Ibrahimovic is now a free agent, and MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy have emerged as the frontrunners to sign the veteran having freed up room in their squad following the departure of Robbie Keane.

The Swede had been linked with a move to the States last season, but instead opted for the switch to United and subsequently helped them to EFL Cup and Europa League glory.

United are still understood to be considering the option of offering Ibrahimovic a short-term deal to give him a chance to prove his fitness, but the Red Devils have also been linked with the likes of Alvaro Morata and Andrea Belotti.
