Antonio Conte has revealed that he attempted to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his time as Chelsea manager.

The offer came when the Swede was in recovery from a knee injury following an excellent 2016-17 season at Manchester United, during which he netted 28 times in all competitions.

Following a spell at Los Angeles Galaxy, the 38-year-old has made a return to AC Milan, where he played between 2010 and 2012.

Speaking on the subject of Ibrahimovic's return to Italy, Conte told the Evening Standard: "[I] tried to convince him to come to Chelsea, but he was in a recovery phase and eventually he didn't feel like accepting."

Ibrahimovic has made the perfect start to his return to Italy, scoring on his full debut in a 2-0 victory away at Cagliari.
