Bayern Munich reportedly have no interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

As he nears the end of his fifth season at Stamford Bridge, Kovacic is regarded as a key member of the first-team group under Graham Potter.

The Croatia international has contributed six goals and 14 assists in 211 appearances for the Blues, counting the 2021 Champions League under the list of his achievements.

Nevertheless, numerous reports have indicated that the 28-year-old could be allowed to depart the club during the summer transfer window, rather than be offered a new contract.

As it stands, his current terms are due to expire in 2024, but Chelsea are in a position where they need to make substantial cutbacks in order to fulfil FFP criteria.

Although the situation could change, it appears likely that Chelsea will cash in on Kovacic this summer, aware that the player will generate widespread interest.

A number of Premier League clubs are known to be monitoring the situation, including Manchester City and Manchester United, but there has been the suggestion that Bayern are also admirers.

That perception was strengthened when Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea's former head coach, was appointed as the new boss of Bayern last week, the German known to appreciate the capabilities of Kovacic.

However, according to journalist Florian Plettenburg, Bayern have no plans to enter the race for his signature.

Plettenburg says that the Bundesliga giants do not feel the need to make a change in that area of the pitch, with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka the current incumbents of that role.

Those two players are also 28 years of age, the same as Kovacic, and club officials may be against signing another player of that experience.

In theory, Ryan Gravenberch and Marcel Sabitzer could compete with the pair for starting roles next season, but Gravenberch is being linked with Liverpool and Sabitzer is currently on loan at Manchester United.

Tuchel allegedly remains keen on Chelsea reunions, however, with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and playmaker Mason Mount having been suggested as potential arrivals at the Allianz Arena. body check tags ::
