How Manchester United could line up against Chelsea

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up in Monday's Premier League clash with Chelsea.

Manchester United will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on Monday night.

The Red Devils have dropped to ninth position in the table having only won one of their last five in the league, although they are only six points off fourth-placed Chelsea as things stand.

United were held to a goalless draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last match before the winter break, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have already beaten their opponents on Monday twice this season.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the 20-time English champions could line up when they take to the field for the key Premier League clash.

Out: Paul Pogba (ankle), Marcus Rashford (back), Scott McTominay (knee)
Doubtful: Axel Tuanzebe (hamstring)

United are still without the services of key midfielders Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay through injury, while Marcus Rashford will again be unavailable due to a back issue.

It seems likely that Solskjaer could use the same 3-4-1-2 formation that worked so well away to Manchester City in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final at the end of last month.

As a result, Luke Shaw could line up as part of a back three with Brandon Williams and Aaron Wan-Bissaka playing as the two wing-backs either side of Fred and Nemanja Matic in midfield.

Bruno Fernandes would then operate as the number 10 behind a front two, and Daniel James's blistering pace could see the Welshman given the nod alongside Anthony Martial in attack.

Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard are other options for Solskjaer, while Mason Greenwood's 10 goals in all competitions this season make the teenager a serious option.

Odion Ighalo is unlikely to be thrown straight in for his debut, although the striker - signed on loan from Shanghai Shenhua last month - is expected to make the bench on Monday night.
