Manchester United have reportedly held talks with former Barcelona manager Xavi as Erik ten Hag fights to keep his job.
Ten Hag recently oversaw a 2-1 win over Brentford to alleviate some of the pressure that had been building following a poor start to the season.
However, the Dutchman still needs to see a consistent improvement in results if he is to remain in his position as Man United manager.
Man United are currently sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table after taking 11 points from their eight top-flight matches this season.
The Red Devils are also waiting for their first European win of the season after drawing their opening two Europa League matches against Twente and Porto.

With Ten Hag still under scrutiny, Man United appear to be scouring the managerial landscape for potential replacements as they put in contingency plans for the Dutchman's potential departure.
The Red Devils have enquired about the availability of Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim, while they have also identified Xavi as a potential candidate.
According to the Daily Mail, Man United have already made contact with the former Barcelona manager on two occasions in the last few months.
The report claims that intermediaries have held talks with the 44-year-old, who is searching for his first job since leaving Barcelona at the end of last season.
A four-man delegation, including chief executive Omar Berrada, flew out to Barcelona last Thursday, although the club have stressed that several high-level meetings have been held in the Catalan city.

Should Man United consider Xavi?
There may be some doubt as to whether Xavi has the managerial ability to take on the Man United job after experiencing a mixed time at Barcelona.
Xavi enjoyed success during the 2022-23 season, leading the Catalan giants to the league title as well as the Spanish Super Cup.
However, he endured a tumultuous time during the 2023-24 campaign, which saw him announce his departure in January for the end of the season.
Xavi reversed his decision in April, before a breakdown in his relationship with club president Joan Laporta ultimately contributed to his eventual departure.
