A number of Premier League clubs are reportedly becoming open to the idea of a circuit breaker until December 26 in the hope of regaining control of the coronavirus situation.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has called for the full round of Premier League fixtures to be postponed this weekend, in addition to the League Cup quarter-finals, in order to help deal with the COVID-19 outbreaks at a number of clubs.

"We think we should postpone the full round of Premier League games this weekend. COVID cases are going through the roof at all Premier League clubs, everyone is dealing with it and having problems," Frank told reporters on Thursday.

"To postpone this round and also the Carabao Cup round would give everyone a week at least, or four or five days to clean and do everything at the training ground so everything is clean and you break the chain."

According to The Independent journalist Miguel Delaney, 'an increasing number of clubs' are willing to back Frank's view, with play potentially being halted until the Boxing Day fixtures.

Brentford have recently had an outbreak in their squad, while the Bees saw their clash with Manchester United scheduled for Tuesday called off due to positive cases in the Red Devils camp.

Burnley's match against Watford on Wednesday was also called off due to coronavirus issues, while Leicester City's clash with Tottenham Hotspur, scheduled for Thursday, is set to be postponed.
